(More customer reviews)We have only had it installed for a week, but I have to admit I'm pretty disappointed now that I have actually used it. I think it would be better for older kids who could open and close it and operate it through the menus by themselves, but not so much for young kids. It is not front seat friendly. I had it professionally installed, which cost $300 although I had them direct wire the sound to my AUX port on the stereo and they added extra metal bracing from the included base plate to the roof to hold this thing up. I have a 2011 honda odyssey with sunroof. It does sound good through the van's sound system and I think the extra bracing was a good idea because the headliner in our van behind the sunroof had a lot of flex to it.
Pros: The ps2 and the included remotes work well. I put in my old ps2 memory card and my favorite game SSX tricky and it was all good. I could have sat back there for a couple hours without whining. :) I picked this unit because of the ps2. I think that will keep kids attention longer than just movies, and on those long car trips we need all we can get.
Cons: 1) The biggest problem is when you turn off the car the PS2 turns off - as it should so you don't drain your battery, but... Hope the kids saved their game or they will FREAK OUT when you turn off the car. Now when you turn the car back on you have to re-open the ps2 to turn it on which resets it and you have to do the start-up all over again. This is a major bummer while watching a movie. It does not keep your place in a movie, so now you have to go through all the dvd previews and menu again, then chapter preview to find your place back in the movie. Major downfall.
2) The remote control works, but you have to have it pointed directly at the front of the unit where the receiver is by the buttons - as in from the back seat position. And not even holding the remote in your lap, it has to be raised up and pointing right at the receiver. You cannot control the unit at all from the front seat positions.
3) Also, the screen resolution is not very good. I knew it was 800x480 when I ordered it, but I guess I expected that to look better than it does. Smaller wording on the menus can be hard to read. The color and contrast are not so great. Of couse, the kids probably won't notice or care, but in this day and age of high tech screens at low costs I expected better.
In summary, if you had kids old enough to get in and out of their seatbelts by themselves and can read and navigate the menus with the remote this wouldn't be so bad. However my kids are all under age 5 and still in carseats so they can't operate it by themselves. It is not easy for parents to set up because we have to crawl into the back seat to get everything set up each time we turn off the power again. I would return it for a more user friendly system, but it's already custom installed in my vehicle.
