(More customer reviews)this amp i received today, bear in mind, i only had it installed for 2 minutes before i cranked it up, (bass boost only about halfway.) and it shut off and went into protection mode. i checked all the fuses and felt if it was hot already and no dice, i restarted it 3 times and let it sit for 30 minutes, no dice, so i just assumed the internals are faulty because bear in mind the power cables attached are rated at most for 1600 watts, so the amp was not receiving full power, and the sub i had attached (power acoustik 15 inch mofo) was pushing pretty hard, but not full power either, the only thing i can think of is that something on the internals came loose during shipping or i just got a bum amp, either way i was pissed to finally feed my sub the power it really needs (upgrading from a pioneer 760 watt) to a 5000 watt, but from the 3 minutes it worked (minus the 2 minutes i spent searching for a cd to listen to) so it only worked for about 60 seconds.
just for it to friggin die on me before i left the parkinglot. how embarrassing. a big old bad amp that supposedly shakes houses cant even push 1 15 at half power? pfft. the replacement better last me a long time if boss wants to convince me they are a good brand. i had faith, but its diminishing for every word i have to type on this stupid review.
i strongly believe the amp was just faulty and that i just got a lemon and that this amp truely is a good buy.
***UPDATE*** April 1st, No joke,
i received the replacement yesterday and have tuned it myself, the amp works good and hits the highs and mids really well, but for some reason struggles with the lows :/ which is why i intentionally bought this item, my old Pioneer 760 watt hit the lows harder with my MOFO 15inch sub. which doesnt make sense....
i assume the 8 gauge wire feeding my 5k watt (more like 2300 actual watts) is choking my amp, but i would assume since the same amount of power is being fed to my 5k watt boss as the power being fed to my 760 watt Pioneer, that i would at least expect the same performance on the lows. but its noticeably less...
im assuming once i upgrade to a 4 gauge (this thing cant handle true 0 gauge like a 5k watt should, not that it needs a wire that big) that it will perform lows better, i was contemplating getting a second battery near the amp to stabilize the system but my local audio stores steered me away because price wise a 10 farad cap would be the same price and on top of that it was designed to handle the abrupt and high stress of a large system like mine, and i think a battery in the back seat of my truck would look ugly anyways,
but for the price i paid for this amp, when i upgrade the cables and cap, it better be 2 or 3 times louder because right now theres not much to brag about when you say you have a 5k watt and when you turn it up all the way it doesnt rattle your friends car next to you as much, when they felt the lows from your previous amp already, which shook it more. and was rated at less then a 3rd the power of this amp... >_< will update one more time after the cap and cable installs! wish me luck!
***UPDATE*** April 6th
the replacement amp is still pumping strong, but an annoyance for me since my amp is right behind my driver seat in my truck, is when its cold out, the stupid fan makes annoying noises that are loud, my solution to getting it to stop is to continually tap on the top of the amp, then it stops, its only done this twice, i think its because the fan always runs even when the amp isnt hot so the bearings in the fan make the noise till its warmed up, but this amp hits pretty hard! the 1 15 inch isnt enough and the amp can handle more so im going to find a replacement for my 10 inch box i have in the garage to hook up as well, seeing as its running strong and all im not too worried about the amp giving out :) YAY BOSS FOR GIVING ME SOMETHING THAT WORKS OKAY! just fix the annoying squealing of the fan when its cold and you have yourself a masterpiece. minus the fact that the amp is called OUTLAW... im sorry but thats a corny name, also the remote bass wire that you can run through the vehicle so you dont have to adjust it at the amp, has a VERY bright blue led that blinds anyone you point it at, and on top of that the knob is bigger then the plastic casing (which is rounded) so you cant really mount it anywhere but i just have it wedged in my seat so its not annoying for me, i actually like the fact that the inside of my truck is lit up by my amp. :D
