Dual MXDM70 AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA Weather Receiver Review

I bought this marine stereo for my Jeep, since in the past stereos have sub-come to rain or even a little dew settling on the interior. Overall I like it. I gave it four starts because it seems to skip a little more often than I'd like. However in a Jeep, you feel every gum wrapper and cigarette butt in the road as it is, so I can live with it. What makes up for the occasional skip, is the MP3 player plug-in (who cares about skipping CD's, when you have an iPod anyway) and the weather band is a great feature also. The display is super bright, which is good for open air driving when the sun is overhead. Another nice feature is that the power button stays lit when the stereo is off, a nice detail when glancing at you dashboard in total darkness. All in all, it's a good stereo and I recommend it for Jeeps, motorcycles, and even for you boaters.

Designed for life on the open water, the Dual MX-DM70 marine CD player/receiver makes a great foundation for a boat-based stereo system. The receiver features a powerful built-in amplifier (50 watts peak x 4) that powers a quartet of speakers, along with a host of marine-ready extras, such as clear-coated circuit boards, a rust-resistant chassis, and a detachable UV-resistant face with a negative white display. As a result, the stereo stands up to light rains, ocean spray, scorching sun, and almost any other weather condition. The CD player, meanwhile, is compatible with CDs and most CD-Rs, including discs loaded with WMA and MP3 files. The unit even displays track names and artist info on its black-and-white LCD screen, making it easy to find your favorite songs in the midst of a cross-lake cruise. And don't fret when you hit a huge wave, as the MX-DM70 includes an anti-shock mechanism that guarantees smooth playback in rough water.
Further versatility stems from the system's quintet of preset tone curves--which let listeners customize the audio settings based on genre and taste--and the built-in AM/FM radio with 30 presets (20 FM and 10 AM). Plus, the radio picks up several weather bands, so you can check the weather conditions before you head out. And finally, the system includes an auxiliary input with a mountable "iplug" adapter that connects to such audio sources as an iPod, MP3 player, or satellite radio receiver. It's never been easier to haul along your entire music collection while boating.
Additional features include a single set of 3-volt pre-amp outputs (for integrating an external amp or powered sub), selectable European and U.S. tuning, independent bass and treble controls, and a built-in clock. The MX-DM70 fits in most pre-installed dash openings and carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

Sony XSL120B5D Box-Dual SubWoofer Review

On Black Friday of 2008, I got these subs plus an 800 watt Xplod amp from Circuit City for $180, after tax. After barely squeezing them into the trunk of my '99 Ford Escort LX, I hooked them up using 8 gauge wire for power and ground to the amp, and high-strand 10 gauge to the speakers. At 340 watts RMS, these things pound! The entire interior of my car rattles; while running a test that slowly increases the frequency, you can hear different components of the car vibrate. They seem to like 48 Hz, +/- 2 Hz, but that could just be the settings on my amp. At 48 Hz, my Garmin Nuvi 270 is unusable (when you go to touch it, it pounds at your finger because of the vibrations, while tilting upwards on its mount). With the right song, they're ear-splitting, and will give me headaches after less than five minutes (even though I'm used to them). The excursion isn't the best, so you don't feel the pressure as much as the actual shock of the hit (it feels like a mild full body massage, if you have longer hair, you can actually feel it vibrating). Outside the car, the sound carries, but you hear the bass more than you feel it. In other words, they're cop-friendly. A larger amp might change this, however. For a first-time setup that'll impress most of your friends that didn't dump more than $500 into a *good* subwoofer setup, this isn't bad. The sound quality is OK, songs with a strong beat sound better than those with a fast one (rap vs. trance/techno). They're designed for low frequencies, thus, if you don't have good speakers to handle the 80-180 Hz range, you might feel like you're missing something. Beware, though, the box is enormous; fitting it into my trunk took some planning, a flat tire would make me extra-miserable, and a small child would barely be able to fit in the trunk with the box. The tradeoff, however, is excellent sounding, head-throbbing bass.

Pros - Hard hitting, 1600 watts peak RMS of 800 watts, already 2 ohm, Dual voice coils.
Cons - 2 week break in period if you are not careful you could blow a voice coil.
I am running these powered by a kenwood KAC-X812D (919 watts RMS 2 ohm 1600 watts max) and i am only running the amp at half power and you can here me coming. just follow the break in period and you will be fine. CompVR-Loaded Sub Boxes provide more crushing but easy-to-install bass in 2007, adding two new sizes of anarchy to go along with its duo of wicked dual-sub boxes--the VCVR12 with a pummeling 12-inch CompVR Subwoofer, and the VCVR15 with a scorching 15-inch CompVR Subwoofer. The VCVR15 will be available this spring.

CompVR Sub Boxes take the reputation and reliability of dual-voice-coiled CompVR Subwoofers and combine them with sturdy KICKER wood enclosures blanketed with rich gray and black carpeting. New-for-2007 CompVR Subs have been tweaked to near perfection, though it's difficult for KICKER acoustic engineers to get much closer. And all CVR Sub Boxes feature a custom-designed, combination vent/terminal cup, where the impedance designator (2 or 4 Ohm) and oversized port share space.
The dual-sub boxes supply the madness with two of KICKER's most proven round woofers to date. Enraged DCVR12 (12-inch CVRs) and DCVR10 (10-inch CVRs) Dual-Sub Boxes furnish fury like nothing else, delivering the blazing bass of a CompVR subwoofer pair.
DCVR12 Features
CompVR performance in a factory designed enclosure
Large diameter, high flow ports with custom flange and terminal cup

i ordered these subs as temporary ones for my eclipse cuz they were pretty cheap. the bass quality was way higher than i thought it would be and they look good and were a perfect fit in my trunk. they hit hard enough my wiper blades seemingly are trying to fly away. i would highly recommend these subs for those looking for a good product while on a budget.
